Who we are
Ryan Carlin is a chief development and growth executive with nearly two decades of experience building and scaling high-performance fundraising and partnership engines for mission-driven organizations. Over the course of his career, Ryan has generated more than $40 million in philanthropic revenue, advising organizations from early-stage startups through mature, multi-million-dollar operations.
As founder and principal consultant of Carlin Major Gift Solutions, Ryan partners with executive teams, boards, and founders to design disciplined revenue strategies that drive sustainable growth. His work spans the full fundraising lifecycle—major, principal, planned, corporate, and annual giving—and is distinguished by a focus on scalable systems, leadership alignment, and long-term institutional strength. Since launching CMGS, Ryan has led engagements that have produced $7.8M+ in gross revenue, exceeding client growth targets by more than 1,100% while building development functions designed to endure beyond any single campaign or leader.
Prior to founding CMGS, Ryan spent 16 years in senior executive development leadership, including service as Vice President of Development for a multi-division nonprofit organization. In that role, he oversaw regional revenue strategy, team development, forecasting, and financial performance—delivering $12M in revenue against a $10.6M target while leading a team of directors across multiple markets. Earlier, as Regional Director of Principal and Major Giving for Italy and Mexico, Ryan led international fundraising strategy and generated $13.7M in revenue, consistently outperforming goals while building donor-centric partnership models across cultures and geographies.
Ryan is known for his ability to translate mission vision into executable revenue strategy—launching development departments from inception, professionalizing underperforming programs, and aligning fundraising growth with broader organizational priorities. He brings a global perspective to his work, with professional experience across the United States, Mexico, and Italy, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian.
He holds a Master of Science in Ethics and undergraduate degrees in Theology and Philosophy, and is a Master Certified Professional Coach (MCPC)—a background that informs his disciplined, values-centered approach to leadership, partnership, and organizational growth.
